There are specially designed metal canisters available in the market made specifically to store coffee. These metal containers come with airtight locks that not only keep the precious cargo away from excess air and moisture but also keep it safe from light.
If you are a coffee fanatic, it’s best you get hold of one of these containers. If do not have the inclination or the funds, you can do a couple of things to get the same effect.
Put the coffee inside a sealable plastic bag and make sure to squeeze out most of the air from the bag before sealing it.
To be completely sure put the packed bag inside another bag.
Use black colored bags instead of transparent ones. This will protect the coffee from light.
After that is done put the packed bag inside an airtight container with a tight lid on it. Store the container in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight.
Fresh coffee smells good. Coffee beans start releasing their aroma as soon as they come out of the roaster.
This is because roasted coffee releases carbon dioxide, which acts as carrier for the smell.
